Chapter 2
The guy who pulled the plug on me in my previous life is standing right in front of me now, his collar neat as ever, but I could still see a hint of restlessness and unease in his eyes.
I let out a small laugh.
"He's trying to swap our baby, and you're just going to stand by and do nothing?" I asked.
He paused, his tone softening a bit.
"The nurse just wants to show us the baby. Don't be so sensitive," he said.
The next moment, another nurse came in through the side door, cradling a baby wrapped in a blanket.
The baby was crying weakly, and there was a tiny red mark on its left wrist. Seeing it felt like a needle piercing my eyes.
A chill ran through me.
The nurse spoke in a low voice, "Mr. Everhart, this..."
Ethan immediately turned to me, his voice turning cold.
"Everyone, get out!" he ordered.
I clenched my fists.
"No one leaves," I said.
The delivery room fell silent for a moment.
I pushed myself up from the bed, the pain from my wound flaring as I moved. Cold sweat dripped onto the sheets.
"Ethan, are you trying to swap my baby?" I asked.
His expression darkened.
"Siena, do you even know what you're saying?" he shot back.
"Are you questioning me?" I retorted.
I pointed at the baby with the red birthmark.
I said, "I know my baby doesn't have a red birthmark. This isn't my child.
"You just let the nurse bring in some random baby and take my daughter away without even asking me. What is that supposed to mean?"
The door was suddenly pushed open.
Nina stood in the doorway, crying, her face as pale as a sheet.
"Siena, please don't misunderstand. Ethan was just worried you'd be too upset right after giving birth," Nina sobbed.
She was holding a baby blanket.
That was the one I'd personally embroidered for my little girl.
I stared at her hands, my fingers slowly curling into fists.
"Give me back the blanket," I said.
Nina's eyes welled up with tears.
"Siena, I was just trying to help," she said, her voice trembling.
Ethan stepped in front of her.
"That's enough. Nina's still recovering. She just gave birth. Are you seriously going to accuse her right now?" Ethan said.
Our parents jumped in from the sidelines.
"Look, we get it, moms get emotional after giving birth, but you can't just throw accusations at your own family," they said.
I watched the way they all rushed to protect her.
In my previous life, it was exactly the same.
It didn't matter who was right or wrong. Once she started crying, everyone immediately took her side and turned on me.
Ethan's face finally darkened.
"Siena, just get some rest. Don't make things ugly," he said.
