Chapter 5

By the time the plane landed in San Francisco, I had been awake for almost twenty hours.

Isla had slept through most of the flight.

I had not.

Three months earlier, Maeve Laurent had offered me a position at her design firm.

The offer included two weeks of temporary relocation housing, but I had turned it down because Callum wanted me to stay home after the baby was born.

Before boarding the plane, I emailed Maeve.

My circumstances have changed. If the position is still available, I am ready to accept it. I need to activate the relocation housing immediately.
